More customers are asking about EV maintenance, and it's changing our daily routine.

We're spending less time on oil changes and more on software updates.

Picture how major software updates require the car to be parked and OFF for a couple hours. That forces shops to block out big chunks of SCHEDULED time instead of quick service slots. Now they have to figure out loaner cars or shuttle runs, adding hidden labor and planning. The whole flow of the shop day gets turned upside down.

But what if shops are making this harder than it needs to be? This could just be a chance to get smart with scheduling. Run the big updates overnight or during lunch breaks when the car would just be sitting anyway. You can also check for updates before the car even comes in and schedule the time right then. It just takes a little forward thinking instead of reacting.

See, that's what my friend thought too, until her car was stuck at the shop for a full day because of an update. She went in for a simple tire rotation, but they said a major software patch had to install right then. It was exactly like @violao10 said, the car needed to be parked and off, so they couldn't just do it later. They didn't have any loaners free, so she had to wait around for hours. All that smart scheduling talk means nothing if the shop doesn't actually plan ahead. Now she has to take another day off work to finish the update.
