My manager tried to fix a transmission with a hair dryer, and it went about as well as you'd expect.
He thought the heat would loosen up some stuck parts. Now we have a melted plastic smell that won't go away.

Oh man, let me tell you about my friend Sam. He said the same kind of thing as @danielgonzalez last year, brushed off a weird smell in his basement. Turned out it was a cracked pipe slowly leaking for months. The repair bill was insane, and he had to replace a bunch of drywall. Sometimes that smell is trying to tell you something big is wrong.
