My neighbor's kid told me his electric car only needs a tire rotation every 20,000 miles.

He said his dad's shop told him the regen braking and single-speed gearbox make everything else last way longer. It made me wonder if we're all stuck in a maintenance schedule mindset built for 20-year-old tech. Are other shops seeing a real drop in brake and fluid jobs on these newer EVs?

Yeah, that tracks with what I've seen too. My cousin's EV basically just needs tires and windshield wiper fluid, it's wild. @the_spencer has the right idea tracking the actual work orders, because the old schedules just don't fit anymore. We're definitely paying for maintenance on problems that mostly don't exist with the new tech.

Used to think it was all hype. Then my shop started tracking EV service tickets. Brake pad replacements are down like 80% for cars over 50k miles. We mostly see tire and cabin air filter jobs now. The maintenance schedule really is different.
