That time I learned why you NEVER skip the torque specs on a Subaru head gasket
About a year ago I did a head gasket job on a 2010 Outback at my buddy's garage over in Tacoma. Thought I had it all figured out, torqued everything down by feel like I always did on old domestic stuff. 3 weeks later the customer came back with a 150 mile road trip and the gasket blew again. Had to eat the cost on the whole job. That's when I finally bought a proper torque angle gauge and a service manual. The difference is NIGHT AND DAY now. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way or was it just me?

2003 WRX taught me that lesson with a snapped stud in the driveway.

Right there with you, rebuilt a Ford 4.6 once by feel and watched it puke coolant all over the driveway a month later. Nothing stings like doing a job twice for free.
