I was poking around a DOT freight report on Tuesday night because I have no life, and it said roughly 25 percent of interstate auto moves get booked through a broker that never touches a truck. That number caught me off guard. So when you call a company and they seem weirdly eager to quote you in 30 seconds, there is a decent chance they are just reselling your move to whoever bids lowest in Dallas or Phoenix. The actual hauler might not even know your car exists until a day out. Anyone here ever paid a broker and then watched the price change once a real driver called?
