Rant: I hauled cars for 3 years before figuring out my tie-down straps were the problem, not the cars

I used to roll my eyes at posts like this honestly, figured straps were straps and if they broke it was on the cheap ones. Then I actually watched a guy at a yard swap out his old worn ratchets for new ones and the difference in how the car sat on the trailer was night and day. Made me go check mine and two of them were stretched to hell, I had just been blaming rough roads and bad luck for years. So yeah, I get it now, sometimes the gear is the whole problem and you don't see it until someone points it out.
