Serious question, why do so many people book transport before checking if the carrier is actually insured?
I was helping my brother move his Tacoma from Portland to Austin and he almost handed over a $400 deposit to a broker who could not name the actual carrier hauling it. I called the company direct and turns out their cargo coverage was only $100k, which does not even cover a newer truck if something happens on I-10. What got me was he had three quotes and picked the cheapest one without asking a single question about who was driving or what insurance they carried. Is it normal to ask for the MC number and a certificate of insurance before putting money down, or am I being too paranoid about this?
