Am I the only one who thinks swapping to a junkyard alternator is smarter than buying new?

So this goes against what like 90% of the forums say, but hear me out. Two years ago my alternator crapped out on my 2004 Civic while I was driving through Bakersfield on a Tuesday night. Every thread I read said buy new, don't mess with used. I said forget it and grabbed one off a wrecked Civic at Pick Your Part for $28 with a 90 day warranty. That thing lasted me 22 months. A new one at the parts store was $160 and they usually only warranty them a year. Do the math. Everyone acts like used electrical parts are garbage but half the time they're off cars that got wrecked with low miles. I pulled mine from a car that had 71k on the clock. The bearings felt fine, brushes looked good. It's not rocket science to check one before you buy it. My buddy keeps telling me I'm gonna get stranded one day, but I keep a spare in the trunk now so who's really winning here. And the $130 I saved went toward a new radiator I actually needed. Not saying do it for everything, but for stuff like alternators and starters I don't get why people are so scared of used. Am I missing something here or is this just people repeating what they read?
