Rear wheel wells went from rust holes to solid steel and it only took me 4 weekends
I drive a 2002 Ranger here in Omaha and the rear wheel wells were straight up gone, like I could see daylight through them, chips of paint flaking off every time I hit a pothole. Back in March I finally got sick of it and started cutting out the rot with an angle grinder, and honestly the first side took me a whole Saturday because I was scared to go too deep. Fast forward to now and both wells are patched with 20 gauge sheet, sealed with seam sealer, and shot with primer. The big change came when I stopped trying to weld in tiny pieces and just made a cardboard template for the whole arch first. That one move cut my repair time in half. I spent about $60 on metal and consumables total, way less than the $700 the body shop in Bellevue quoted me. The welds look ugly but they are solid and I hit them with a flap disc after. Has anyone here done a full arch replacement instead of patching, and did it hold up better over a couple winters?
