That Saturday when my Jeep decided to eat its own transmission line

Was supposed to be a simple fluid swap on my '98 Cherokee. Three hours in, I'm under the thing and the hard line just snaps off the cooler fitting. Rusted clean through. Had to drop the skid plate, cut out a 4 foot section, flare new ends, and find a shop that carried metric fittings on a Saturday afternoon. Total 9 hour job turned into 3 days and $180 in parts and borrowed tools. Anyone else had a simple maintenance day turn into a full rebuild?

Classic Jeep right there. I swear they design those transmission lines to rot from the inside out just to ruin your weekend lmao. $180 for what was supposed to be a $20 fluid change, that's the Jeep tax in full effect man. At least you didn't snap a bolt off in the block, then it would've been a real party. You basically got off easy with just three days and a metric fitting scavenger hunt lol.

Oh man, that brings back memories. I had the same issue on my old TJ a few years back. I ended up swapping in a set of aftermarket quick-disconnect fittings from a local hydraulic shop. Cost me about 30 bucks total and they've held up way better than the factory ones. Also started using a small dab of anti-seize on every fitting during reassembly, saves a lot of headaches down the road when you have to take it apart again.
