The guy at the junkyard who made me rethink my torque wrench habit

I was pulling a window regulator out of a 2011 Camry at Pull-A-Part in Columbus last Saturday and this old timer next to me says 'you know, most of these cars came from the factory with torque specs that are just suggestions.' We got to talking and he showed me how he just tightens lug nuts by feel and has never had one come loose in 30 years of driving beaters. Made me think about all the times I've over-torqued stuff on my own rigs and stripped threads in aluminum parts for no good reason. Do you guys actually break out the torque wrench for every bolt or just the critical ones like head bolts and suspension stuff?
