Warning: that $8 compression tester from Harbor Freight actually worked and I'm mad about it
My neighbor kept saying my truck had a dead cylinder and I blew him off for a month because I figured a cheap tester couldn't read right. Finally grabbed the $8 one at the Harbor Freight in Mesa last Saturday and tested all 8 cylinders in my driveway, and cylinder 4 came back at 60 psi while the rest sat around 150. Pulled the valve cover and sure enough the exhaust valve on 4 was toast. So now I own a $8 tool that told me more than the $200 one I borrowed from my cousin two years ago. Anyone else get burned trusting the cheap version over the name brand, or is it usually the other way for you?
