Appreciation post: my first solo pitot-static leak check passed on the first try after 14 months of watching
Did my first unassisted pitot-static leak test on a CRJ last Tuesday in the hangar and it held at 1,000 feet with zero drop after 14 months of just watching the senior guys do them, so now I'm wondering how long it took the rest of you to get your first one to hold clean.
14 months of watching is honestly the right way to learn it, nobody ever talks about that part. My first one on a 737 took three tries because I kept chasing a tiny leak that turned out to be the static port tape not sealed right. That 1,000 foot hold with zero drop on a CRJ is no joke either, those things love to creep a little. Once you get that first clean one the rest come way easier because you finally trust your own setup.
