Debating the detail in our repair logs: Where do you draw the line?
I'm split on our maintenance logging system. One side says full records are key for safety and checks, saying logs have helped spot repeat faults. The other side calls it a time drain, arguing we should focus on fixes, not forms. Like when I logged a simple wire splice that took twice as long to write up as to do. Is this level of detail really needed, or is it just extra work? I'd love to hear where you stand on this.

Ever had a simple repair come back to bite you months later? That wire splice could fail, and without the log, who's proving it wasn't your fix?

Wait, a lawsuit actually got stopped by some notes? That's wild. Elliot949 is right, it really is the best defense. I always figured logs were just for the next guy doing the work. Never really thought about them saving your skin in court. A failed wire splice is bad enough without getting blamed for it years later. Guess I'm adding more detail to my paperwork from now on.

What about that story where a mechanic's notes stopped a LAWSUIT? I read that full logs aren't just for safety, they're your BEST defense later. Sucks to do the paperwork, but it's WORTH it.
