Noticed a big difference in connector crimping quality after we switched to the DMC tooling last quarter.

We were using the generic crimpers from the parts room for years and kept getting intermittent pin issues. Our lead tech finally pushed for the DMC set around September. First time I did a batch of 20 pins with the new tool, none of them failed the pull test. The old ones would have maybe 3 or 4 slip out. Has anyone else seen that big a jump just from changing the tool?

Hold on a minute. I've seen just as many problems with DMC tooling when the operator doesn't keep the dies perfectly clean and aligned. A skilled guy with a decent ratcheting crimper can get the same pull test results if he knows what he's doing. Seems like the real difference might be that your lead tech was finally checking the work instead of just blaming the old tool.

Pfft, are we really splitting hairs over this? I've seen guys with $20 Harbor Freight crimpers and a steady hand nail perfect connections every time while a fresh tech with a fancy DMC tool turns out garbage because he's too busy staring at the screen. If the work passes pull test, who cares what stamped the metal? Feels like we're overcomplicating a job that's basically just squeezing metal around wire.
