Old lead at ANC swore by dielectric grease on cannon plugs - saved my tail yesterday
A guy named Jerry who retired from Alaska Airlines back in 2018 told me to ALWAYS put a thin layer of dielectric grease on cannon plug pins before mating them. I was doing a swap on a GPS antenna up on a King Air 200 yesterday and the plug was completely corroded - took me 15 minutes to get it apart. Jerry's grease trick would have saved that hassle, and now I'm wondering how many other little tips from the old-timers I've been ignoring. Anyone else have a weird maintenance trick that actually works?

My uncle worked ramp ops in Juneau for 12 years and swore by the same stuff, but he used it on the boot heater plugs on a Cessna 185. He told me one time (back when I was like 16) that he put too much on and it actually caused a short because the grease got between two pins. The trick is to barely put any at all, like just a tiny dab on your fingertip and rub it onto the pins before you snap them together. Too many guys think more is better and then wonder why their connectors get all goopy over time. Also, I've seen people use it as an excuse to skip cleaning the pins first, which is a bad idea.
