Rant: a pilot asked me if the radar altimeter was just 'a fancy tape measure'
Heard that during a pre-flight in Denver and it made me think we should do more walk-arounds with the crew to explain what our boxes actually do.

Yeah I feel that, Stella627. Flying 80,000 pounds of metal and someone thinks a radar altimeter is a fancy tape measure makes you wonder what else they're fuzzy on. I've been in enough cockpits to know the gap between what pilots and techs know can be scary. A few solid walk-arounds where you actually point out the antennas and explain how they talk to the ground might save someone a whole lot of trouble later.
