Debate: Does the Pacific Crest Trail get worse crowds every year or is it just me? I hiked the Sierra section in 2019 and again last summer and the number of people on the trail was nuts.

You mention "the number of people on the trail was nuts" and I'm seeing the same thing everywhere I go, from state parks to local hiking spots. Seems like everyone and their brother discovered the outdoors during the pandemic and just never stopped.

Gotta admit, I used to roll my eyes when people complained about crowds on trails. Figured they were just being dramatic or gatekeeping. But then I tried to hit a local nature preserve last spring and couldn't even find parking. It took me 20 minutes just to get a spot. That changed my mind real quick. The trails are packed like a mall on Black Friday now.
