Hot take: 400 miles in a season is not the badge of honor people on here make it out to be
I hit 402 miles on the Long Trail last August and honestly the last 60 were miserable, half of them slogs through rain on no sleep. I'd rather do a clean 250 with good weather and a light pack than chase a number that just wrecks my knees. Anyone else think we should talk more about how the route felt than the total on the odometer?
I listened to a Backpacker Radio episode where a guy said his best day on trail was 12 miles because he actually sat by a creek and ate lunch. The 20 mile days were just blur in his memory. The miles that stick with you are the ones where you weren't half dead.
