Spent 2 hours trying to find a water source near the Northville-Placid Trail last weekend

I kept wandering off the main trail based on an old map I had, but the stream I was looking for had completely dried up. Turns out the seasonal creeks around there shift a lot depending on the year's rainfall. I should have checked the DEC's latest trail report before heading out. Has anyone else run into map issues with smaller waterways in the Adirondacks?

Check the USGS topo maps instead of old paper ones, they update water features way more often.

Friend of mine tried using an old paper map for a hiking trip out west last summer and ended up a mile off trail because a creek had completely changed course. She pulled up the USGS topo on her phone and there it was, the new channel drawn in clear as day. Paper maps are cool for nostalgia but they can definitely leave you stranded if you're relying on them for water features.
