Spent $340 on a down quilt before a 5 day trip in the Wind Rivers and it saved my butt
Back in college I was hauling around a 4 pound synthetic bag that took up half my pack, and a guy at a hostel in Lander told me to just try a quilt. I dropped about $340 on a 20 degree down quilt since that felt insane at the time, but it packed down to the size of a football and weighed under 2 pounds. First night out it hit 24 degrees at a lake near Titcomb Basin, and I was honestly warmer than I ever was in the old bag. Now I look at my old setup and wonder how I carried it for years. What weight did you all finally give up on for a colder route?
