Switching from paper maps to Gaia GPS felt like cheating at first
Honestly, for years I'd plan every route by tracing with a pencil on a topo map, but after getting lost on a 14-mile day in the Smokies last October, I finally downloaded Gaia and it's night and day. Has anyone else struggled with trusting digital tools over paper, or is it just me?

Tbh I'll take the paper route every time. Getting lost is part of the fun and a GPS just makes the whole thing feel like staring at a screen instead of actually being out there.

Just got back from a trip where my phone died four miles out and I had to pull out the paper backup I still carry. That moment of panic made me realize I still kind of trust the paper more, even though Gaia got me out of a bad spot in the Shenandoahs last spring. It's like having a safety net you don't want to fully let go of, you know?
