That 14 mile detour for a waterfall in Oregon was actually worth it

I usually roll my eyes at those blog posts hyping some hidden waterfall, but last month near Silver Falls I took the extra loop on a whim. The map said 14 miles and my knees were already yelling, but the side trail led to this tiny mossy grotto with water so clear I could count the rocks. Three other hikers were there and we all just sat silent for like ten minutes. Has anyone else taken a route they were sure was overrated and got proven wrong?
