Took a detour on the Ice Age Trail and found a hidden creek crossing

I was hiking the Ice Age Trail section near Cross Plains, Wisconsin last weekend and decided to skip the marked route for a bit. Ended up following this tiny side path that led to a shallow creek with these flat rocks you could hop across, totally not on any map I saw. It added maybe 2 miles but the whole area was way quieter and prettier than the main trail. Has anyone else found random unmarked spots like that on established routes?

Oh absolutely, I've noticed this happens way more than people think! It's like the official maps only show the "highlight reel" of a trail, but all the best stuff is in the little forgotten paths. I swear this relates to something bigger in life too - like how the best conversations happen off the main topic or the best restaurants are hidden down side streets. We get so focused on following what's marked or planned that we miss the quiet, beautiful spots that are literally right there waiting for us. The main trails are fine for getting somewhere, but those detours are where you actually find the character of a place. Honestly, I bet half the time those unmarked paths used to be the real route before someone decided to pave and signpost everything.
