Tried the Pacific Crest Trail in late March instead of April like everyone says

Everyone told me to wait until April to start the PCT because of snow. I went out near Kennedy Meadows on March 20th anyway. Hit 4 feet of snow at 8,000 feet and had to turn back after 3 days. Learned that the collective wisdom is right most of the time. Has anyone else tried starting a long trail early and got burned by conditions?
