Tried to cross a creek on the Kettle Moraine Ice Age Trail and my boots are still drying
Was hiking the Wisconsin section near the Lapham Peak shelter last Saturday and the map showed the creek crossing as "seasonal." Turns out seasonal meant knee deep and moving fast after two days of rain. I found a downed oak about 15 feet upstream and scooted across on my butt, which worked until I slipped on the wet bark and went in up to my waist. Anyone know a better way to scout water levels before committing to a route, or do I just need to start calling the ranger station every time?
