Update: I thought the Lost Coast Trail in California was overhyped

I finally hiked the 25-mile stretch last month after a friend kept pushing me, and the constant beach walking with a full pack was way more engaging than I expected. The permit system felt like a hassle, but seeing those sea stacks up close completely changed my view. Has anyone else had a route surprise them like that after putting it off for years?

Permits are just paperwork, not that deep.

Oh man, I used to totally agree with you. Then my neighbor built a deck without a permit and the whole thing had to be torn down. The city said it was too close to the property line. That paperwork is actually about safety and following the rules, which kinda matters.

That permit headache you mentioned I get it. My crew had to wait 8 weeks for a simple trail maintenance permit on a section near Shelter Cove last spring. The constant sand slogging with a heavy pack is no joke either. But those sea stacks at low tide man they really do change everything. Sounds like the payoff was worth the hassle.
