Wasted $80 on that fancy water filter that clogged after one trip

Bought one of those squeeze bag filters from a big brand. First weekend out on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, it slowed to a trickle by day two. Had to borrow my buddy's old school pump filter the rest of the trip. Anyone else had bad luck with those bag style filters?

Honestly stopped trusting most bag style filters after mine did the same thing. It's like companies rush products out without testing them in real conditions. Seems like a lot of stuff nowadays looks good on paper but falls apart right when you actually need it.

Used to swear by those bag filters until mine did the same thing last summer on the Shenandoah. Thought I was just unlucky but then three other hikers in my group had the same issue with different brands. Switched back to an old school pump filter after that trip and haven't had a single problem since. Kind of frustrating because the bag style is so much lighter to carry, but what's the point if it chokes out after one day on the trail?
