Realized my shading was backwards after 2 years of drawing at 2AM
Was doing a quick sketch of a lamp on my desk around midnight and it hit me. I always put the dark side closest to the light source because my brain said shadow = near the light. My friend looked at it and laughed, said the shadow should be on the far side. Checked a real lamp and yeah, total facepalm. Has anyone else had that moment where a basic rule finally clicks after hundreds of tries?

shadow should be on the far side" but that's not even always true though, it depends on how many lights you got and where they're at. I've seen plenty of setups where the shadow lands right next to the light source if there's more than one bulb in the room.
