Vent: it took me 12 years to learn I've been holding my pencil wrong this whole time

I was doodling that ugly dog I drew at 2am last week and my hand cramped up something fierce. My sister's art school friend glanced at it and said "you're gripping like you're trying to strangle the thing, try holding it way back near the eraser." Has anyone else had a dumb basic habit they just never questioned?

So wait, did you actually have to retrain your brain and muscles after holding it that way for 12 YEARS? That sounds like torture trying to unlearn that.
