Compared a $5 gas station map to a free state tourism map for a drive through West Virginia and the tourist map had roads that actually exist
The gas station one showed a highway that was clearly a gravel logging road when I got there (it ended at a creek with no bridge), has anyone else had a paper map literally lie about terrain like that?

Yeah, was the gas station one a Rand McNally? I've had a few of those show roads that looked paved on the map but turned out to be dirt tracks.

Yeah I treat those maps like a box of chocolates. Never know if you're getting pavement or potholes.
