That $50 map app that showed a hiking trail through a literal pond
I paid 50 bucks for some hiking map app because everyone said it was the best. First time I actually used it to find a trail near my place, it guided me straight to a pond with no way around. I had to backtrack like 2 miles through some thick brush. The map showed the trail going right through the water, no bridge or anything. My buddy laughed his head off when I showed him the screenshot. Has anyone else had a paid map app totally screw them over like that?

Man, a whole pond? That's wild. I've had GPS take me down some sketchy roads before, but nothing that straight up ignores water. You'd think for fifty bucks they'd at least check for a bridge or a dry season or something.
That screenshot must have been gold though. My buddy would've framed that thing if it happened to me. It makes you wonder if anyone actually walks these trails before they put them on the map, you know? Like, did the person who made it just look at a topo map and draw lines without ever setting foot outside?
Take it from someone who's been burned before, sometimes the free apps are janky in a more honest way. At least when they screw up, you didn't pay for the privilege.
