That map of Texas I bought for $20 is completely useless

I picked up this vintage looking map of Texas at a flea market last Saturday for $20 because it looked cool on the wall. Got it home and realized the scale is all wrong - Houston is like half the size of Dallas on it, and they put Amarillo way too far east. I tried using it to plan a road trip to Big Bend with my buddy Jim but we ended up 30 miles off course because the roads don't match reality at all. Has anyone else fallen for a decorative map that turned out to be total fiction?

Honestly, 30 miles off course is wild. Like, that map isn't just off by a little, it's basically a fantasy novel at that point. You guys could've ended up in New Mexico or something if you didn't catch it. Tbh, I'd be stoked to hang it on the wall as a joke piece, but I'm never taking it on a trip.

Seriously though @xena_williams, what even was the map of originally? Like was it just a random shop in town that got rotated 90 degrees or is it some alternate dimension version of the street layout?

Ha! Honestly, that map sounds like it was designed by someone who took a wrong turn in their own driveway. I'm picturing the shop being in some kind of wormhole where the front door is actually the back alley and the cash register is on the ceiling. Like, "Oh yeah, we just rotate everything 90 degrees for fun, it's an aesthetic choice." But nah, 30 miles off? That's not a map, that's a treasure hunt where the treasure is just more confusion. At least they could frame it as modern art and charge tourists for the story.
