OK but what ACTUALLY went wrong for you? Was it the routing being dumb or just the interface feeling clunky? I've had times where OSM totally nailed a back road that Google didn't even know existed, but then other times it sent me down a dirt track that was basically a river.

Your dirt track story reminded me of a trip through rural Pennsylvania where OSM sent me down what looked like a paved road on the map but turned into a half-mile of loose gravel with a stream running right across the middle. Did you have any warning with that river road, or did it just dump you into it without any kind of heads up? That's what gets me about these free apps - they don't care about road conditions or weight limits.
