Unpopular opinion: paper road atlases make the phone map apps look like junk, and I switched back 6 months ago
For 8 years I let my phone tell me where to go, until a trip to Asheville last spring where the signal died and I had to ask a gas station guy to draw turns on a napkin. I dug out a 2007 Rand McNally atlas from my parents' garage, and now I keep it in the door pocket because I can see the whole route at once without a blue dot spinning me around. Does anybody else still run a paper backup, or am I just old?
Wait, a 2007 Rand McNally? That thing is older than some of the roads you were driving on. I had that same edition and half the exits near Charlotte were labeled wrong because they redid the whole interchange around 2010. How did you not end up in a cornfield trusting print that old? I get wanting the whole route in front of you, but at some point a paper map from the Bush era is gonna send you somewhere that doesn't exist anymore.
