Why does nobody talk about how the border between Belgium and the Netherlands moved 3 feet in 2016
I went down a rabbit hole on weird border maps last night and found this one. In 2016 someone moved a border post in a field near a town called Itteren, and it turned out the border between Belgium and the Netherlands had drifted about 3 feet from where the old maps showed it. The cause was goofy: a farmer probably dragged the heavy stone marker while plowing, and nobody noticed for a while. The really wild part is that fixing it meant both countries had to agree to swap a tiny sliver of land, and the paperwork actually got signed in 2016. Now I want to know how many other border markers out there are just sitting in the wrong spot. Has anyone seen other maps where the border and the ground don't match up?
