Heard a guy at the gym say smartphones would never replace his flip phone back in 2007
Was scrolling through old tech forums last night and found a thread from 2007 where this dude was dead serious that touchscreens were a fad. He argued flip phones were more durable and you could snap them shut to hang up on people dramatically. I remember thinking the same thing when my friend got the first iPhone - I swore I'd never give up my physical keyboard. Wonder if that guy ever caved or if he's still out there flipping his phone closed.

Oh man, "snap it shut to hang up on people dramatically" got me lol. I was the same way with my Blackberry back then, swore I'd never type on glass. Finally got an iPhone in 2010 and never looked back, I bet that guy caved around then too, touchscreens just took over everything.

Did your Blackberry have that satisfying snap too @emeryn83? I had a buddy who swore by his physical keyboard until he dropped his phone in a puddle and had to borrow a cheap touchscreen for a week. He never went back to a flip or slider after that, even complained the buttons felt cramped.

Totally felt that same shift myself. I had a Palm Treo with a slide out keyboard and thought I was hot stuff until I tried my girlfriend's iPhone 3G for a week. After that, my Treo felt like a toy from the 90s, never missed the physical keys once.
