Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say VR would replace all movie theaters by 2025

I just overheard this guy at a Starbucks in Austin telling his friend that by now we'd all be watching movies in VR headsets and cinemas would be a thing of the past. He was dead serious too, said it was a sure bet back in 2018. Here it is 2025 and I still had to wait in line for 20 minutes for a popcorn last weekend. Has anyone else noticed how these predictions just ignore the fact that people actually like going out and sharing an experience together?

People still want popcorn and a crowd though, right?

Wait, "still want popcorn and a crowd"? Is that actually a thing people are demanding again? I mean, I guess I figured after everything with the strikes and the convenience of streaming, nobody wanted to deal with sticky floors and overpriced snacks. But maybe it's just me, I haven't been to a theater in like two years. Honestly, the whole experience sounds exhausting now, sitting in the dark with a bunch of strangers.

Honestly, it is a thing lmao. It's part of this bigger pattern where everyone's so stuck at home all the time now, working and streaming everything, that a lot of people actually crave that messy, shared experience again. Like how brunch places are always packed on weekends even though you could make pancakes at home for way cheaper. Sometimes people just want to be around other humans, even if it means overpriced popcorn and a sticky floor. It's exhausting for sure, but it's kind of the same reason why concerts and sports games are still so huge too.
