Spent 4 hours chasing a plugin conflict that ended up being a wrong PHP version on my staging site
I was debugging why my ecommerce cart kept breaking on checkout, and after swapping out every single plugin one by one I found out the host had me running PHP 7.2 instead of 8.1. The error logs never even hinted at the version mismatch, it just showed generic 500 errors. Has anyone else wasted an afternoon on something this basic after assuming the hosting was fine?

Man, hard disagree on this one. You can't just assume your host is doing everything right and then blame them when you didn't even check the basics first. Staging sites are literally for catching this kind of stuff before it goes live. If you spent 4 hours chasing plugins instead of looking at the server config for 5 minutes, that's on you not on the host. PHP version mismatches are like the first thing I check when I clone a site anywhere. You probably saved yourself future headaches by finding it, but the time waste was your own fault for assuming everything was perfect out of the box.
