That 1994 BusinessWeek cover about the 'death of the internet' still cracks me up

Was cleaning out my dad's garage in Toledo last month and found the actual magazine. The cover showed a guy smashing a computer with a hammer, predicting the internet would collapse under its own hype by 2000. I laughed so hard I had to sit down. We were chatting online about it in 1997 with 56k modems, but somehow it was supposed to die. Anyone else have a stack of old tech doom predictions hiding somewhere?

You ever look at old predictions and realize how much we all bought into the hype? I remember arguing with my buddy in '96 that this whole internet thing was just a fad, like CB radios. We figured it was too nerdy and complicated for regular folks to ever really need. Seeing that cover now, though, it kinda hits different. Makes me wonder how many other "sure things" we're dead wrong about right now, just waiting for someone to laugh at us in ten years.
