The 2015 article that said smartwatches would replace phones by now

Found a 2015 piece from a tech blog claiming by 2025 nobody would carry a phone, just a watch with a tiny screen. I spent 4 hours last night trying to get my watch to show a bus ticket QR code in Chicago and it kept failing. Anyone else still lugging a phone around while their watch just tracks steps?

Ha, so the future is just my wrist yelling at me while I fumble with a paper ticket like it's 1995? Real talk though, did that article have any backup plan for the whole "battery dies at 3pm" thing, or were we just supposed to carry a charging brick in our other pocket?

Suppose the phone is dead. You still need the charger for the watch anyway, so now you are carrying two bricks and a cable. They never mention what happens when the gate scanner can't read a dead screen. Really, the whole plan falls apart the second you forget to charge the thing before a late flight. That article should have just told people to keep the paper ticket as the backup and skip the watch part entirely.
