My electrician buddy fried my $300 amp, but I still can't stay mad at him

Last month in Austin, my friend Dave offered to rewire my old tube amp after I told him about a hum issue. He accidentally swapped the speaker outputs and sent 120V straight into the input jack, smoke poured out in about 2 seconds. He laughed, said 'well that's one way to test it', and handed me $300 cash for a replacement the next day. The whole thing makes me wonder though, is it better to have a friend who screws up but owns it, or one who never tries but never learns? Has anyone else had a memorable moment where a botched repair actually brought you closer to the person who messed it up?

Man, that reminds me of my buddy Carlos who tried to fix his girlfriend's dryer and ended up shorting out half the block. Power went out for like three houses, but the neighbors came over with beers while they waited for the utility truck. They still joke about it every time there's a storm.
