My electrician cousin let me help wire his garage in Ohio and I mixed up the neutral and hot on purpose to see what happens
So last summer I was at my cousin Dave's place outside Dayton and he finally got around to running power to his detached garage. He let me help because I've done some basic stuff around my own house. He handed me a roll of 12/2 and told me which breaker to tie into. I got curious about what actually happens if you flip hot and neutral on an outlet, so I did it on one receptacle just to see. Breaker popped instantly when we flipped it on, which honestly was less dramatic than I hoped. Dave just stared at me for about ten seconds and then said 'you did that on purpose didn't you.' He made me redo the whole run and check every box twice. The worst part is I actually knew better but the curiosity won. Has anyone else ever done something dumb on purpose just to see the result?
