Pro tip: That 'ground loop isolator' advice from my uncle was a total waste of $15

He swore it'd fix the hum in my guitar amp, but after plugging it in and getting the exact same buzz, I realized his fix was just a bandaid for a loose input jack. Anyone else have a 'simple fix' that just cost you money and time?

Ground loop isolators can actually work in some setups, but they're only useful if you've got a real ground loop happening between two pieces of gear, not for a loose input jack. Your uncle probably heard "buzz" and just threw the cheapest solution at it without actually diagnosing the problem first. A loose jack will always cause noise because the signal isn't making proper contact, so a ground loop isolator isn't gonna fix that physical connection issue. Next time, wiggle the cable around and see if the buzz changes before buying anything. Saved myself a bunch of cash learning that trick the hard way too.
