That $20 fuse tester nearly burned down my garage last night

I grabbed one of those no-name fuse testers off Amazon and it shorted the panel instead of testing it, sparks flew everywhere before I yanked it out. Did the cheap tool save me time or just create a new fire hazard, anyone else get burned by these?
