That time I wired my living room lamp backwards and blew the bulb in 3 seconds

Found out from a sparky on YouTube that mixing up neutral and hot on a standard lamp socket can short the whole thing out, and I had to ask my neighbor to help me fix it after I fried two bulbs in a row, has anyone else done this dumb mistake?

Oh man, I didn't do it myself but I watched my buddy do basically the same thing. He had this old metal floor lamp from his grandma and he was rewiring it cause the cord was chewed up. He hooked the black wire to the silver screw and the white wire to the gold screw, thought it looked right. Plugged it in and the bulb flashed bright for a split second then popped like a firecracker. The whole apartment smelled like burnt plastic for two days. Told him to check a diagram next time instead of guessing, but he just shrugged and said "at least it didn't start a fire.

Grandma's lamp deserved better than getting wired backwards like that.
