Why does everyone swear by wire nuts for junction boxes? My Wago lever nuts held up fine through 3 winters in Minnesnowta
Everyone at the hardware counter in Duluth said the lever nuts would pop loose in the cold and I'd be sorry. I wired my whole garage outlet run with them in 2021 and just pulled the covers off last weekend, 3 winters later, and every one is still snug. The old guy who sold me the box said "wire nuts don't lie" but I've had more of those back out on me than these. Anyone else switched over or am I the only one trusting plastic levers with my own house?
Three winters isn't the test people think it is, since cold makes plastic brittle over time and the real failures show up when you go poking around in there. Those lever nuts can feel snug right up until the day the clamp lets go under load, and then you've got a loose splice heating up inside a box you never open. Wire nuts have a hundred years of ugly but proven behind them, so trusting a new connector because it survived a few seasons is how you end up sorry later.
