Don't waste your money on that fancy bread lame I bought last week

I dropped $45 on some "artisan" lame with a curved blade and it actually made worse scores than my $2 razor blade. The handle is all awkward and the blade doesn't stay tight... just go buy a pack of double edge razors at the drugstore and save yourself the headache. Anyone else regret a fancy baking tool?

45 bucks for a bread lame that doesn't even hold the blade tight sounds like a straight-up ripoff. Those curved blades are all about wrist angle and most people do better with a simple straight razor anyway. Bet you can get a pack of 10 double edge blades for what you paid for that handle.

And yeah @leor37, that "45 bucks for a bread lame that doesn't even hold the blade tight" part is exactly why I switched to a cheap straight razor handle from a craft store. Costs like 3 bucks and you just snap a blade in half. The curved blade thing is way overhyped, most home bakers can't tell the difference once the dough is shaped anyway. I've been using the same pack of 50 razor blades for over a year now, still get clean cuts every time.
