Just walked out of a bakery in Austin that charges $9 for a single croissant
I was visiting Austin last weekend and stopped at this hip spot on South Congress. The croissant looked beautiful, flaky layers and all, but $9 for one pastry? I bought it anyway because I wanted to see if it was worth it. It was good, sure, but not $9 good. Am I just out of touch or are pastry prices getting ridiculous in some cities?

Used to roll my eyes at people who complained about $4 coffee, figured they just didn't get that quality costs money. Then I paid $9 for a croissant that was maybe 20% bigger than a grocery store one and tasted about 10% better. That math doesn't work no matter how you slice it. Made me realize there's a line between paying for craft and just getting rinsed because a place has exposed brick and Edison bulbs.

@jake_kelly24 It's just a croissant, not that deep.
