Remember when everyone used to be scared of sourdough? It was like this big mystery.
Now I see people at the farmer's market in Boise selling starters for $5 like it's no big deal. I think all those YouTube videos during the pandemic just made it seem way more approachable. What's the one baking thing that went from intimidating to normal for you?

You're right about sourdough seeming like a big mystery. I've seen this happen with a lot of stuff, not just baking. Something seems super hard and fancy, then a bunch of normal people try it and make videos, and suddenly it's just a thing you do on a Tuesday. For me it was making pie crust from scratch. It felt like a huge deal, but after you mess it up a few times you realize it's just flour and butter and it's fine. The internet just takes the fear out of trying.

Totally! I read this article about how we used to learn skills from like, one person in our town who was the expert. Now you can watch fifty different people make sourdough and see all their mistakes first. It demystifies the whole process.
